Our Journey

Milestones in Building a Scalable Banking Institution

Year 1

A Star is Born

(FY 2016–17)

Ujjivan SFB received an in-principal licence in 2016 to establish a Small Finance Bank and commenced operations in 2017. The Bank was set up to provide savings and credit services to the un-served and under-served communities. Transitioning from an NBFC to a Bank enabled it to accept deposits, reduce cost of funds and extend credit at more affordable rates.

Year 2

Transformation Amidst Challenges

(FY 2017–18)

In its first full year of operations, the Bank upgraded 450 branches, expanded digital channels and improved customer access through ATMs and mobile banking platforms. These initiatives were delivered despite external challenges such as demonetisation, reflecting execution capability and operational resilience.

Year 3

Building a Mass-Market Bank

(FY 2018–19)

Ujjivan SFB scaled its product suite, introduced new customer segments and strengthened partnerships for third-party offerings. Growth was supported through both digital and physical channels, enabling wider reach and deeper customer engagement.

Year 4

Taking Responsible Steps

Year 6

Transforming for a Better Tomorrow

(FY 2021–22)

The Bank implemented two, structured 100-day recovery plans focused on rebuilding business volumes, improving asset quality and strengthening talent. Efforts were also directed towards simplifying processes and improving accessibility.

Year 7

Advancing with Purpose

(FY 2022–23)

Ujjivan SFB strengthened its core by investing in people, refining product offerings and expanding its digital and physical footprint. Strategic partnerships with fintech companies supported innovation and sustained growth.

Growing with Intent

(FY 2023–24)

The Bank leveraged digital innovations and executed targeted campaigns to enhance customer engagement. It also strengthened its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) focus, reinforcing its position as an inclusive and responsible institution.

Year 9

Strengthening Service Excellence

(FY 2024–25)

The Bank strengthened its service delivery framework through the expansion of the Service Index Programme from 160 to 316 parameters, alongside improvements in resolution efficiency and a continued reduction in customer complaints.

Year 10

A Decade of Scale and Diversification

(FY 2025–26)

The Bank crossed several structural milestones during the year, with secured assets approaching half of the loan book, retail deposits and Current Account Savings Account (CASA) contributing a significant share of funding, and customer relationships expanding across lending, deposits and digital channels. Portfolio diversification, granular liabilities and disciplined credit management further strengthened the Bank’s operating model, marking a significant step in its evolution from a Micro Banking-led institution to a diversified banking franchise.
