Who is Eligible for an MSME Loan?

1. Eligible Business Entities

Depending on the loan product and bank's eligibility criteria, applicants may include:

  • Sole Proprietorships
  • Registered Partnership Firms and LLPs
  • Private Limited and Public Limited Companies
  • Eligible businesses operating in sectors such as manufacturing, services, wholesale, and retail

2. Business Vintage (Operating History)

  • Established Enterprises: Banks may require a minimum operating history based on the business type, loan product, and bank's policy.
  • Early-Stage Enterprises / Startups: Can qualify for specialized collateral-free schemes such as PMEGP or MUDRA (Shishu Category).

3. Financial Performance & Banking Health

  • Turnover: Banks may assess the business's revenue and turnover in relation to the requested loan amount and repayment capacity.
  • Banking Record: Recent bank statements may be reviewed to assess cash flow, transaction activity, and repayment behaviour. Frequent cheque or auto-debit bounces may affect the bank's assessment.

4. Credit Score

  • 700 or higher: A strong credit score may improve the chances of approval and help the applicant qualify for more favourable loan terms, depending on the bank's assessment.
  • 650 to 699: Some banks may consider applicants in this range based on their overall credit profile, cash flow, and repayment history.
  • Below 650: A lower credit score may make approval more difficult or result in less favourable terms. The final decision depends on the bank's assessment and other factors.
