An LLP (Limited Liability Partnership) is a business structure that allows two or more individuals to run a business in partnership without generally putting their personal assets at risk for the LLP's liabilities. A partner's liability is generally limited to their agreed contribution to the LLP, subject to certain exceptions.
An LLP operates under the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008 and to be recognised as an LLP, the business must be incorporated with the Registrar of Companies (ROC) through the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). Once the incorporation is completed, the LLP receives a Limited Liability Partnership Identification Number (LLPIN).

What is LLPIN?
LLPIN (Limited Liability Partnership Identification Number) is a unique 7-character code assigned to an LLP when it is incorporated with the ROC through the MCA.
Unlike CIN, the characters in an LLPIN do not necessarily represent specific information about the LLP. It is simply a unique identification code assigned by the MCA to the LLP. Also, the LLPIN of an LLP remains unchanged even if it changes its registered office, business activities, or partners during its operations.
The LLPIN is given to the LLP and not to the partners running it. Designated partners have a separate Designated Partner Identification Number (DPIN) for their identification in MCA records and filings.
Why Does an LLP Need an LLPIN?
The LLPIN remains the identification number of an LLP for its compliance and regulatory requirements. It helps identify the LLP in MCA records and link the LLP to its filings.
The LLPIN is also used across MCA forms and services. For example, when an LLPIN is entered in an MCA form, the system can use it to fetch details such as the LLP's name, registered office address, and email ID.
An LLP's name may be similar to another LLP's name. The LLPIN provides a unique identifier to distinguish between the two LLPs in MCA records.
Is LLPIN the CIN of an LLP?
What LLPIN is for an LLP has a role similar to what CIN is for a company. So, for easy understanding, people sometimes refer to LLPIN as the CIN of an LLP. But at a functional and regulatory level, LLPIN and CIN are different, as they identify two different types of business entities.

How to Find LLPIN on the MCA Portal?
You can find an LLP's LLPIN through the MCA portal. You do not need to log in to your MCA account to search for an LLP.
Follow the steps below to find the LLPIN of an LLP using its name.
- Visit the official MCA website.
- Go to MCA Services from the main menu.
- Hover over FO Services.
- Click on Find LLP.
- The Find LLPIN page provides two search options. You can search using the LLP's existing name or its old name if the LLP has changed its name.
- Then, enter the relevant LLP name in the search field.
- Enter the captcha and click Submit.
- The MCA portal will display the relevant LLP details, including the LLPIN.
