A Bike Loan NOC (No Objection Certificate) is a document issued by the bank or financial institution after you repay your bike loan in full. You need the NOC document to complete the process of removing the hypothecation from your bike's Registration Certificate (RC). Once hypothecation is removed, the bank will no longer hold a security interest in your bike.

A bike can also have another type of NOC. The registered RTO can issue an RTO NOC when you move your bike to another state and need to change its registration to that state. This NOC is different from the NOC issued by your bank after loan closure.

This blog focuses on the Bike Loan NOC you get after repaying your loan, how to get it from your bank, and what you should do after receiving it.

What is a Bike Loan NOC and When Do You Get It?

A bike loan NOC is a certificate that the bank or financial institution issues after you repay your two-wheeler loan in full. NOC states that you have cleared the loan and that the bank has no objection to removing the hypothecation from your bike's Registration Certificate (RC).

A loan closure certificate issued after repaying the loan also confirms that the loan has been paid and closed, but it serves as a record of the loan being closed. An NOC confirms that the bank has no objection to the removal of hypothecation from the RC.

How to Get NOC for Bike Loan?

Pay all the pending EMIs, applicable charges and other outstanding amounts, and get confirmation from the bank that your loan is closed. You can then apply for the Bike Loan NOC online or by visiting the bank branch.

1. To apply for the NOC online, check with your bank. Look for the NOC option under the particular loan account and submit your request. The process may vary depending on the bank or its app.

2. The bank will check your loan repayment details and issue the NOC if you have cleared the full loan amount.

3. On receiving the NOC, check the date, loan account number, vehicle registration number, loan amount and other important details.

4. Print or download the NOC, and keep it safe. You may need NOC even after completing the hypothecation removal process for other vehicle-related formalities.

If you have also applied for hypothecation removal, the bank may need to provide its consent or other documents for the process. If you have requested Form 35 along with the NOC, make sure you receive that document as well.

What Should You Do After Receiving the NOC for Bike Loan?

After receiving the NOC, you need to apply for hypothecation removal from your bike’s RC. The NOC confirms that the bank has no objection to the hypothecation being terminated. The bank’s hypothecation is removed from the vehicle records after the termination process is completed.

Depending on the state and RTO, the process may be completed through the available online service or may require further action. Check with the concerned RTO and complete the process as required.

How to Apply for Hypothecation Removal From Bike RC Online?

You can apply for hypothecation termination through the Parivahan/VAHAN portal if the online service is available for your state.

1. Go to the Parivahan website and select Online Services > Vehicle Related Services.

2. Select the state where your bike is registered.

3. You will be directed to the VAHAN portal for the selected state.

4. Enter your bike’s registration number and other details required to access the vehicle-related services.

5. Select the Hypothecation Termination option and enter the required personal and vehicle details.

6. Upload the documents required for hypothecation termination.

7. Submit the application and pay the applicable fee.

The documents listed by Parivahan for hypothecation termination include:

  • Application in Form 35
  • Certificate of Registration
  • Allotment letter of the vehicle
  • Valid insurance certificate
  • Proof of address
  • Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate
  • Attested copy of PAN card or Form 97 (previously Form 60) and Form 98 (previously Form 61) as applicable.
  • No Objection Certificate from the financier
  • Pencil print of chassis and engine number
  • Signature identification of the vehicle owner

The RTO will verify the application and, once the hypothecation termination is approved, the vehicle records will be updated to remove the financier's details. You will then receive an updated RC without the financier's hypothecation details.

Note: The exact document requirements and process may vary based on the state and the concerned RTO.

How Long is a Bike Loan NOC Valid?

The validity of a Bike Loan NOC can depend on the bank and its policies. It is advisable to apply for hypothecation removal soon after receiving the NOC or start the process while requesting the NOC, if the bank allows it.

If the NOC expires, you may request a fresh or revalidated NOC from the bank. However, it can add more time to the process, so it is better to complete the hypothecation removal without unnecessary delay.

What is an RTO-Provided Bike NOC?

An RTO-provided Bike NOC is a No Objection Certificate issued by the RTO where your bike is registered. It confirms that there is no pending issue, such as an outstanding tax, traffic-related matter or other legal restriction, that prevents the vehicle from being moved to another state or jurisdiction.

You may need this NOC when you move to another state and want to re-register your bike there. For example, if your bike is registered in Telangana and you move to Karnataka, you may need an NOC from the Telangana RTO before completing the re-registration process in Karnataka.

The table below highlights the difference between a Bank NOC issued after closing a bike loan and an RTO NOC required when registering the bike in another state.

Bike Loan NOC

RTO NOC

Issued by the bank or financial institution

Issued by the RTO where the bike is currently registered

Issued after you repay the two-wheeler loan

Generally required when you move the bike to another state and want to register it there

Used for hypothecation termination

Used as part of the interstate vehicle re-registration process

Confirms the bank's consent to remove its hypothecation

Confirms that the existing registering authority has no objection to the vehicle being registered in another state

Final Thoughts

A Bike Loan NOC confirms the loan closure and provides the bank's consent for removing the hypothecation from your bike's RC. You can apply for the NOC online or offline, depending on the bank's process. Once you receive the NOC, apply for hypothecation removal as soon as possible and get your RC updated with the hypothecation removed.
